Cumming

Cumming is located 40 miles northeast of Atlanta, in Forsyth County. It is the only incorporated area in Forsyth County, as well as the county seat.

From a pristine lake to mountain peaks, you can find adventure at every altitude in Cumming. The jewel of this community is Sawnee Mountain Preserve. This 963-acre preserve features hiking trails, Indian Seats, a tree canopy classroom, picnic pavilions, climbing area, and Visitor Center.

With several million visitors annually enjoying its recreational facilities, Lake Lanier is the largest lake in Georgia. It has 700 miles of shoreline spread over 38,000 acres. The water in Lake Lanier comes from Georgia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. The rain falls on the mountains, runs over beautiful waterfalls, and then makes its way down to Lake Lanier via the Chattahoochee and Chestatee Rivers. The completion of the Buford Dam on the south end of the lake in 1956 turned the area’s Chattahoochee and Chestatee Rivers into Lake Lanier. Cumming has easy access to Lake Lanier which is a great place to boat, fish, picnic, swim, and camp. There is also a water park, hotel, and wedding venue located on Lake Lanier.

At night, the Cumming Playhouse comes alive with live performances throughout the year. Balloons Over Georgia is also based here but offers a variety of ballooning trips at many locations in Georgia. Golfers will find Lanier and Country Land Golf Clubs both affordable and challenging. The Cumming Fairgrounds hosts annual events such as antique car shows, antique tractor shows, rodeos, Indian Festival, 4th of July Celebration, and a Christmas Arts & Crafts Show and Celebration. However, the highlight of the fairground is the 10-day Country Fair & Festival in October.

Public schools in Cumming are part of the Forsyth County School District.
