Sandy Springs is Georgia’s sixth largest city and the second largest city in the metropolitan Atlanta area. Its boundaries are Atlanta to the south, Cobb County to the west, Roswell to the north, and Dunwoody and Brookhaven to the east.

Just minutes from downtown Atlanta, yet worlds apart, this cozy community boasts Southern hospitality and charm. The city was incorporated in 2005 after a 40-year effort by unwavering citizens. Prior to 2005, the community was relying upon a large county government for the provision of services, which did not adequately meet residents’ needs.

Once incorporated, Sandy Springs took a non-traditional approach by contracting with private companies to perform the majority of its services in a public-private partnership model of government. This provided considerable savings and higher levels of service for the city. The Sandy Springs PPP model is a notable example for other local governments, therefore city leaders from across the country and around the globe are visiting to learn more.

Endless Activities

Sandy Springs has 22 miles of shoreline along the Chattahoochee River. Because of this proximity, outdoor activities are a popular pastime. Residents enjoy rafting and kayaking on the ‘Hooch, hiking in the Big Tree Forest Preserve and playing at the Abernathy Greenway Playable Art Park. In addition, there are around 16 parks that cover 950 acres in Sandy Springs that offer numerous activities for everyone

Arts and Culture are also important to the residents. Abernathy Arts Center is a neighborhood arts center dedicated to providing quality arts instruction to the community. The gallery features monthly exhibits which provide exhibition opportunities for students and faculty.
