About Dodgen
Dodgen Middle School is a 2017 National Blue Ribbon Winner. Dodgen is located in East Cobb County and was founded in 1975 . Over 1200 students attend Dodgen. Dodgen prides itself on it’s hard working staff, teachers and students. As a result, Dodgen’s students consistently perform well on both state and national assessments.
Academics
Students land in Advanced Content or On Level classes based on test scores and teacher recommendations. AC classes cover the same material as On Level, but dig deeper into the information. Math classes go beyond the AC level and will affect a student’s Math placement in High School. In 8th grade, students are able to choose between French and Spanish as a foreign language choice. This year, a pilot program offered Foreign Language to 7th graders who qualified.
PTSA/Foundation
Parent involvement is the cornerstone of Dodgen’s PTSA and Foundation. PTSA serves Dodgen through a number of volunteer committees such as Book Fair, Copy Crew, Front Office Volunteer, Hearing and Vision Screening, Media Center. Similarly, the mission of the Dodgen Foundation is to “empower student success by funding resources, above and beyond those provided by the county, to further support Dodgen’s mission of academic excellence”. Providing Chromebooks and iPAds to be used in the classroom as just one example of this.
Connections
Dodgen offers Connections to all students as a compliment to their Academic classes. Music programs are the most popular Connection choice at Dodgen. Students choose from Band, Chorus or Orchestra. All three of these programs put on several concerts a year, participate in events outside of Dodgen. 8th graders in each program travel to Disney for a judged performance. Other Connection choices are PE, Health, Technology, Art and Business.
Student Activities
Students have many choices when it comes to getting involved at Dodgen. Examples of clubs are: Academic Bowl, Beta Club, Breakfast Buddies, Debate Team, Yearbook,Stock Market Club, Intramurals and Science Olympiad. Teachers sponsor each club and work with the students that attend. Finally, Dodgen also has a PAC (Principal’s Advisory Committee) that meets monthly. Students apply to be part of this group that works to make the school a better place for all.
